Hi, I’m Sarah…
Sunset enthusiast, wanderluster and the writer behind ranga adventures.
I’ve been travelling on and off since 2012 when I left the UK to live and study in Australia for a year which pretty much changed my life. Since returning to the UK, I’ve realised that the life I want doesn’t revolve around having a fancy high-paying job, new clothes, having a mortgage or buying a brand new car.
For me, the world is too big to stay in once place and I want to see and experience as much of it as possible.
I’m currently in the process of moving from the UK to Canada and by early 2018 I will hopefully be living the life I’ve been dreaming about for years. In the meantime, you’ll find me exploring South East Asia both solo and with family and friends – and maybe doing a bit of hopping around Europe on cruise ships too.
But what does ‘ranga’ actually mean?
Well, I was lucky enough to move in with four Australians on my year abroad and due to my almost ginger hair, I soon picked up the nickname ‘ranga’ (Australian slang for someone with red or ginger hair). And hey presto! I had the name of my blog.
Since studying in Australia for the third year of my degree I’ve travelled extensively across Australia, New Zealand, Europe and parts of Canada, usually on a (student) budget. And my list of places to visit just seems to keep on growing…
In the last four years I’ve had all sorts of travel experiences, from backpacking student style across Australia to splashing out on a luxury weekend in New York to road tripping through Ontario in Canada. I’ve even spent a little bit of time as a travel rep for a international student orientated company, exploring many wonderful parts of the UK.
I’m a firm believer that travel can be a part of your life and it is more achievable than you think. Sure, you might have to make a few sacrifices to get there (like giving up that daily Starbucks or splashing out on new makeup every payday…) but in the end, doesn’t the experience make up for these things?
A bit of a History of Ranga Adventures
I first started this blog to keep track of my adventures for my family whilst I was studying abroad but since then it has gone through a number of phases. For a while I was obsessed with it, spending hours and hours everyday writing new things and sharing content on social media. But then I was on the road for a few months and forgot all about it in exchange for living life to the full on each day of my travels. And well, then I came back to the UK in 2013 and since then it’s been a whirlwind of finishing a degree, working full time, completing various qualifications, learning a language and then generally being quite lazy in my down time.
But from 2017 I’m renewing the blog so that I have a place to record my travels so that I never forget them. I’m about to make some pretty big changes to my life and I think it’ll be fun to write about. But hey, if it also manages to show you that you don’t need to be rich to travel the world and inspires you to get out there a little bit more then I’ve done a good job!
You’ll mainly find me writing about cool places I’ve been, posting photos to inspire you to visit places I’ve loved and probably some actual stuff about my life thrown in too.
